Help us cross the finish line!
We’re on the home straight and we need your support! Mount Maunganui Playcentre is on the move, and we need your help to cross the finish line of our 17 year fundraising effort to build our new centre.
For nearly 50 years, our Playcentre has been an integral part of thousands of Mount Maunganui families, delivering free child-centred education with parents at the heart of their child’s learning.
We strongly believe in the Playcentre kaupapa “Whānau tupu ngātahi” (Families growing together) and have welcomed thousands of tamariki through our doors since we began in 1974. Maybe this was you, your parents or one of your children? We know Mount Maunganui Playcentre has impacted many people’s lives. Learn more…(link to Ways to Support Us page).

Golf Road Reserve
The newly established Golf Road Reserve at the eastern end of Gold Road was established by Tauranga City Council in xxx after the disestablishment of the Mount Maunganui Bowling Club.
The new Golf Road Reserve has already seen the building of a new Surf Life Saving New Zealand regional headquarters and in the coming years the Tauranga City Council is supporting the building of a community garden, a community centre, as well as the new purpose-built Mount Maunganui Playcentre.
As well as supporting the parents, caregivers and children at our new location, Mount Maunganui Playcentre is looking forward to forming new relationships with the other community groups neighbouring the Golf Road Reserve, including the Omanu Surf Lifesaving Club, Surf Life Saving New Zealand, and Mount Maunganui Bridge Club.
Many of our Playcentre whānau belong to the Omanu Surf Lifesaving Club with their older children and our new premises will allow our Centre to work with this Club to explore opportunities for increased membership with the Club, water safety education and surf lifesaving focused outdoor education.
We have also received positive feedback from Ngāti Kuku and Ngāi Tukairangi hapū on the project and are exploring ways in which to work with them moving forward to encourage members of the hapū to participate in Playcentre. This support was also referred to on page 25 of the Tauranga City Council – Ordinary Council Meeting Agenda - 8 February 2022 as follows: "There is potential to connect the hapū to the site [Golf Road Reserve] through the natural progression of tamariki (children) from playcentre through to surf lessons and potential further activities on the balance of the site."
